 MOOD & ENERGY

Borojo is both a highly energetic and nutritious fruit. Traditionally, it has been used as a nutritional complement, because it is rich in essential amino acids, oligoelements and minerals. It is commonly used throughout Central and South America for its’ beneficial health, medicinal and aphrodisiac properties. Borojo has one of the highest levels of B-Vitamins among fruit. It is prized by athletes because of its highly energetic content of amino acids, B-Vitamins and soluble solids, consisting mainly of fructose and glucose. Borojo has a high percentage content of phosphorous, known to be very beneficial for cognitive brain functions such as memory and concentration. The composition of borojo seed is: water 36%, oils (omega-6 & omega-3) 0.9%, protein 11%, carbohydrates 13% and raw fiber 13%. The pulp is high in carbohydrate and calcium. The protein content of Borojo is so high, one pound of edible borojo fruit is equivalent to 3 pounds of fresh meat. The vitamins, minerals and proteins found in this fruit are an excellent source of energy for active men and women.      Back to top.

Renewed Vim & Vigor with XooY

Green & Ripe Borojo ALL THE ESSENTIALS*…

Isoleucine - is one of the BCAA’s (branch chain amino acids) and is necessary to build and maintain lean muscle mass. It is needed for the formation of hemoglobin, helps to stabilize and regulate blood sugar and energy levels and is essential for adults to maintain nitrogen balance.

Leucine - another of the BCAA’s, is necessary for nitrogen balance in adults. Leucine lowers elevated blood sugar levels, regulates protein synthesis, is believed to help maintain muscle mass (essential for long term weight management) and is also used to increased endurance and enhance energy.

Lysine - helps the body absorb and conserve calcium and plays an integral role in the formation of collagen, essential for healthy bones and connective tissues like skin, tendon and cartilage. It helps build muscle protein, repair tissue and can be vital to recovery from surgery and sports related injuries.

Methionine - helps initiate the translation of messenger RNA and is an important source of sulphur and other compounds required for normal metabolism and growth. Methionine reacts with Adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) to form S-Adenosyl-Methione (S-AMe), vital to the synthesis of many important substances like epinephrine, collagen, creatine, melatonin and certain polyamines. It also plays a role in the synthesis of cysteine, carnitine, taurine, phosphatydylcholine, other phospholipids and lecithin production.

Phenylalanine - is key to the synthesis of other amino acids, some neurotransmitters like dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine and is usually converted to tyrosine in the body. It displays anti-depressant properties and is a constituent of certain mood regulating hormones like melanotropin and endorphins.

Threonine - is an immune-stimulating nutrient as it promotes both the growth of and activity in the thymus gland. It helps conserve glucose and stabilize blood sugar. Threonine is an important component in the formation of tooth enamel and protein as well as, collagen and elastin which are essential for healthy skin and wound healing.

Tryptophan - is a precursor to the neurohormone (melatonin) and a potent neurotransmitter (seratonin). By conversion to 5-HTP and then seratonin, tryptophan aids in the regulation of mood, appetite, sleep and impulse control. It also promotes the production of growth hormone which plays a vital role in virtually every cell in the body.

Valine - also a BCAA’s is closely related to leucine and isoleucine in both structure and function. It is a constituent of fibrous protein in the body. As with the other BCAA’s, valine is an important fuel source for skeletal muscle during metabolic stress. It suppresses protein catabolism and promotes protein production and storage and muscle growth. Valine also helps in the synthesis of glucose in the liver especially during anaerobic activity.  Back to top.

...and More!

Alanine - is vital to the production of proteins, roper function of the central nervous system and helps in the formation of neurotransmitters. It is involved in the energy producing breakdown of glucose and promoting proper blood glucose levels from dietary protein.

Arginine - is involved in multiple areas of physiology and metabolism. It plays an important role in cell division, wound healing, removal of excess ammonia from the body, immune function and the release of hormones.

Cystine - is required for proper utilization of vitamin B-6 and helps in the healing of burns and other wounds. Cystine also assists in the supply of insulin to the pancreas which is needed for the assimilation of sugars and starches. Cystine increases the level of glutathione in the lungs, liver, kidney and bone and aids in the breakdown of mucus deposits during illness.

Glutamic Acid - is important for the metabolism of sugars and lipids. An excitatory neurotransmitter it also aids in the transportation of potassium across the blood-brain barrier. Glutamic acid can attach itself to nitrogen atoms during the process of forming glutamine. Not only does this action detoxify the body of ammonia, it is also the only way that the brain can be detoxified of ammonia. Glutamic acid may also play an important role in normal prostate function.

Glycine - helps the liver detoxify compounds. It is essential for the synthesis of nucleic acids, bile salts and acids, proteins, peptides, purines, ATP, porphyrins, hemoglobin, glutathione, creatine, glucose, glycogen, l-serine and other amino acids. Glycine enhances neurotransmitters in the brain that are involved in memory and cognition.

Proline - is the precursor for hydroxyproline which the body incorporates into collagen, tendons, ligaments and the heart muscle (which it strengthens). It also plays important roles in molecular recognition, including intracellular signaling.

Serine - has a key role in a variety of biosynthetic pathways including pyrimidines, purines, creatine and prophoryns. It is highly concentrated in all cell membranes, aiding in the production of immunoglobulins and antibodies. It is a constituent of brain proteins and nerve sheaths and is needed for the metabolism of fats and fatty acids, muscle growth and a healthy immune system.

Tyrosine - is a precursor to the adrenal hormones as well as, the thyroid hormones (which have a role in almost every process in the body) and aids in the function of the adrenals, thyroid and pituitary.   Back to top.

...And Even More!

Saponins - are phytochemicals and can be found in abundance in borojo.  Saponins have many health benefits.   Some studies have illustrated the beneficial effects of saponins on blood cholesterol levels, cancer, bone health and stimulation of the immune system. Most scientific studies investigate the effect of saponins from specific plant sources such as borojo and the results cannot be applied to other saponins.

Cholesterol

The blood cholesterol-lowering properties of dietary saponins are of particular interest in human nutrition. One of the most prominent research programs on this subject was that of Dr. Rene Malinow, whose research (published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1997) demonstrated unequivocally the cholesterol-lowering properties of saponins.  This desirable effect is achieved by the binding of bile acids and cholesterol by saponins. Bile acids form mixed micelles (molecular aggregates) with cholesterol, facilitating its absorption. Cholesterol is continually secreted into the intestine via the bile, with much of it is subsequently reabsorbed.  Saponins cause a depletion of body cholesterol by preventing its reabsorption, thus increasing its excretion.

Studies have shown that saponins (secondary metabolytes such as sesquiterpine / leucoanthocyanins) have anti-tumor and anti-mutagenic activities and can lower the risk of human cancers, by preventing cancer cells from growing.  Saponins seem to react with the cholesterol rich membranes of cancer cells, limiting their growth and viability.  Roa and colleagues found that saponins may help to prevent colon cancer and as shown in their article "Saponins as anti-carcinogens" published in The Journal of Nutrition (1995, 125, 717s-724S). Some studies have shown that saponins can cause apoptosis(cell death) of leukemia cells by inducing mitotic arrest.

Immunity

When ingested by humans, saponins also seem to help our immune system and to protect against viruses and bacteria.

Bone loss

Some studies have shown that some saponins have a protective role on bone loss.

Antioxidant

The non-sugar part of saponins also have a direct antioxidant acitivity, which may result in other benefits such as reduced risk of cancer and heart diseases.

Other Components

Borojo is a good source of fiber and analysis shows that it also contains the following beneficial components : Aluminum, Ascorbic Acid, Boron, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Omega 6, Omega 3, Phosphorous, Riboflavin, Silica and Thiamine.

*Essential amino acids must be obtained through dietary intake, as they cannot be synthesized in sufficient amounts in the body.  Back to top.

FRUIT OF LOVE

Borojo is known as “La Fruta del Amor” or “Fruit of Love” because it is said to be a powerful aphrodisiac for both men and women.  Borojo is indigenous to the jungles of South & Central America.  Jungle natives have used Borojo as an aphrodisiac for centuries.  In fact, the fruit is still prized to this day by people throughout Central America as a primary source for sexual enhancement.  Borojo has a naturally high concentration of Arginine.  Arginine recycling is an important factor in nitric oxide release.  Nitric oxide is involved in vasodilatation (increased blood flow) and it is well documented that low levels of nitric oxide are associated with mental and physical fatigue as well as sexual lack-luster and erectile dysfunction.  Back to top.
